This locomotive kit is etched on 0.028" brass for the chassis and 0.018" brass for the body. The valve gear and coupling rods are etched on 0.018" nickel silver. These parts have to be laminated on assembly. The chassis is constructed by the slot and tab method, and ample spacers are provided for strength. The brake gear, brake rods and springs are etched on 0.028" brass. The cylinders are etched in nickel silver and are fixed to the chassis by 8ba brass nuts and bolts. These cylinders are to be fitted with tubes (supplied) for the valve and piston rods to work in. Cast valve and piston rod covers are also provided, along with basic drain cocks.
We also provide all the parts required to compensate the locomotive chassis. It can be compensated on all three axles, however, most builders will leave the rear axle rigid for the motor to drive on. The body of the locomotive has etched on rivet detail on the cab and smoke box wrapper, as well as some rivets that are positioned for you but have to be punched out. The boiler is a strong brass tube cut to length for you with an overlay for the smoke box. The smoke box also has an etched riveted overlay and a turned brass disc to blank off the front end.
White metal casting's are supplied for the fittings, however, the whistle is in brass. The cab is fitted with our standard backhead which includes a separate fire door, water gauge, clack valves and regulator block and handle, it also has a cast screw reverse.
