This locomotive kit is etched on 0.018" brass for the body and 0.028" brass for the chassis. The coupling rods are etched on 0.020" nickel silver. The main parts of the locomotive kit are designed to be soldered together, however, some of the fittings could be glued into position if required with a bonding agent of your choice.
The chassis is constructed by the slot and tab method which helps to line up the frames, it has ample spacers for strength. There are large axle bearings for the axles to run in, it also has etched brake gear and springs. The chassis has all the parts to enable it to be compensated if required. We recommend that the rear axle is driven by the motor if the model is to be made up with a compensated chassis. Sand boxes are also supplied for the chassis, these are cast in white metal.
The body has rivet detail provided on the buffer beams and smoke box, but these have to be punched out by the builder. The sprung buffers supplied have brass stocks and steel heads, the whistle is in brass but all other fittings are in white metal. A brass tube is supplied for the boiler and smoke box, this is cut to length for you. The cab side doors can be made to work, all the wire, tube, screws and handrail knobs are supplied in the kit along with a set of assembly instructions. |
