| JOHN'S MODEL RAILWAY SHOWCASE OF |
| Gauge '0' (7mm = 1 foot scale) |
| L.M.S. BEYER-GARRATT 2-6-0 + 0-6-2T |
This locomotive kit is etched on 0.018" brass for the main body, 0.028" brass for the chassis and 0.020" nickel silver for the valve gear and coupling rods. The center boiler unit has rivet detail on the footplate, cab, and the smoke box wrapper. These rivets have to be 'popped out' by the builder in the usual way. The boiler is a brass tube cut to length for you with a split tube for the smoke box and a riveted overlay. All the casting's are in white metal, except for the whistle which is in brass. The cab is fitted with our standard backhead plus casting's for the reversing and hand brake stands. The chassis is assembled by the slot and tab method, ample spacers are provided for strength and generous size axle bearings for the axles to run in. The chassis can be built rigid or compensated, all the parts being supplied in the kit. The cylinders are etched on 0.018" nickel silver, they have brass screws soldered into them for assembly to the frames, and brass tube is provided for the piston and valve rods to move in. The sand boxes are also cast in white metal along with brake cylinders, while the brake arms, brake shoes, brake rods and springs are etched on 0.028" brass and assembled with wire cross beams. |
There is ample space to fit a motor and gearbox in both ends which could be fitted to the center axle. The valve gear is laminated to give strength and to enable the rod ends to embrace other parts where applicable. The expansion link swings when the model is in motion and there is valve rod movement although the reversing arm is pinned in mid gear. The coupling rods are also laminated and jointed to give smooth running and to accommodate the compensation. |

The body has rivet detail on the buffer beams, footplate and the smoke box overlay. The boiler is a brass tube which is cut to length for you and a turned brass disc is supplied to finish the front end of the smoke box. On the underside of the footplate we have provided cast brake cylinders and steam pipes. We have also included etched parts for the brake gear and an ash pan. The water tank can be made up for the high or low versions. The whistle is in brass, however, all other boiler and body fittings are cast in white metal. All the wire, tube, hand rail knobs, hand rail wire, screws and nuts are included in the kit with a comprehensive set of assembly instructions compiled in the form of an A4 booklet. |
