This locomotive kit is etched on 0.018" brass for the loco body and 0.028" brass for the loco chassis. The coupling rods are etched on 0.018" nickel silver. The kit is designed to be soldered together using 180/145 degree solder for the main parts and 70 degree low melt solder for the small detail parts. A bonding agent of your choice can be used to secure the white metal casting's if preferred.
The chassis is assembled using the slot and tab method, it has ample spacers for rigidity and large bearings for the axles to run in. Etched springs, brake arms, brake shoes and pull rods which can also be adjusted for wheel clearance, white metal cast sand boxes are also supplied. We have also included etched balance weights for the driving wheels which could be glued in position.
The coupling rods are jointed to allow for any uneven track and making the locomotive more suitable for use on outdoor layouts where it may encounter uneven track. Compensation is of course supplied in the kit for the loco so that the builder has the choice of building a rigid or compensated chassis, guard irons of course also supplied.
The smoke box on this locomotive is cast in white metal, the boiler is a brass tube. A brass whistle is included to enhance the model, all other casting's are in white metal. As usual all the wire, tube, screws and handrail knobs are supplied in the kit along with a set of assembly instructions. The kit is supplied in a box large enough to house the completed model. |
